A very chic 'woman of a certain age' parked this unusual car in front of us in the 6th arrondissement. On questioning her, she informed us that it's a Japanese car, AIXAM, that can go only 50 km/hr (~30mph) and because of this, no driving license is required. After she left, the French friend with us said this is the car people drive in France after they lose their licenses for drunk driving.
And see below for a rare Paris sight: an available parking space! I've never seen one before that did not have an idling car nearby ready to pounce into it.

Did you notice how noisy that car is? The ones I've been around in the countryside are really noisy and, I have to say, a menace on the highway. I've come up on them as I rounded a bend and nearly run over them. This one is very cute though. Did you find out what it sells for? I'm thinking it would it would be great for my grandson to use for driving lessons instead of my car. I'm dreaming, of course. Tooling around Paris or up and down the hills in San Francisco in one of those might be fun if they weren't so loud. However, it doesn't solve the parking problem - as you noted.
