Rubber Bracelets

I  thought a rubber band was un élastique in French. But I picked up a box to fetch a rubber band and discovered this:  

The French word for rubber, caoutchouc, is one of those weird multi-voweled words, like yaourt (yoghurt). When I saw 'Rubber bracelets' I thought it was a funny mis-translation. But then I turned the box over and found:

So this box was purchased in France and wasn't mis-translated at all. And then I thought about it: a 'rubber bracelet' is very descriptive and far more poetic than a rubber band. And I'm more committed than ever to scouring packaging and instructions for new words.
