Today we were in the Place de la Madeleine area and needed to use the 'facilities'. We had our choice of a nearby Sanisette or the spectacular Art Nouveau toilettes underground beside the church, Église de la Madeleine, in the center of the Place.
Each stall is behind a mahogany door with a stained glass window and holds a tiny porcelain sink with brass fixtures. The central tiled and mirrored area has a raised throne-like chair with brass foot supports that was formerly used for shoeshines. Although the toilettes are free, it is customary to tip the attendant. They discourage photography, so you will have to take my word and see it for yourself as these snaps do not do it justice.
